The Taff Trail:Taffs Well
Taffs Well
Taffs Well village has various facilities, however the Taff Trail avoids the main street, passing between the Station Car Park and Industrial premises at the former "Walnut Tree" railway junction where the Rhymney Railway met the Taff Vale Railway. The former railway track from here towards Caerphilly forms part of the Taff Trail.
Taffs Well to Tongwynlais
From the Taffs Well Station Car Park go to the traffic lights and turn left. (I usually head for the pavement at the lights since it connects better with the marked section further on).
Across the next junction, the pavement is clearly marked for cyclists and follows all around the busy A470 interchange and through to Tongwynlais.
Taffs Well to Penrhos Cutting
From near Taffs Well Station Car Park cross the road to join the traffic free path.
We cross over the A470 on a bridge and pass a couple of cottages, then follow the steady climb of this former Rhymney Railway. The Taff Trail High level route from Castell Coch joins us from the right and a little further, under a bridge we come to the junction of National Cycle Routes 4 and 8 and the Penrhos Cutting.
Taffs Well to Treforest Industrial Estate
Completed in 2006, this is a new traffic free cycleway. Signed to Nantgarw, initially this follows a wide pavement within Taffs Well Ind. Estate. Leave the road on a path to the left and continue around the edge of Taffs Well Rugby Club on a dedicated path to a new bridge. This takes you swiftly over the A4054 to run along the top of an embankment through to Treforest Estate.
